Self Defence Training-
Self-defense intends to prepare girls for unexpected situations and also developing increased mental and physical health. It basically, educates beneficiaries’ gentle solutions to respond against situation of threat, bullying and attack. The techniques program emphasizes on using voice and non-violent ways to protect themselves that’s handy for the life!
Objectives:
- Empowering girls and women and equipping them with the skills of self-protection.
- Educating awareness of danger- students learn to use their eyes and ears to be aware of their situation. If they are aware of themselves and aware of things that could mean danger, they have the best chance of staying safe. Thus, enhancing the abilities of the students to gauge the threat.
- To educate students with Simple, Easy To Remember and Do able, Extremely effective Self Defense Techniques
- Orientation on using Weapons of Opportunity (WOO): Using day to day items for protection
Each training session last about six days. Training session comprised of 100% of practical sessions that would deal more on understanding psyche of the attacker and abuser thus making students endowed with the mental and physical skills for personal assurance and confidence that positively affects your life every day. To ensure the sustainability of the project Physical educators stationed in the school will also be trained along with the students. So that they can incorporate this training in their regular practice.
In the end of the training, a final show down is being conducted where group of selected students from each grade performed techniques of all the 6 days that they had learned in front of school staff and principal (best batch).
Live coverage of performance by best batch on the Facebook done on regular basis. To make the training more sustainable and enduring principals have shared that they will keep providing self-defense training to the students by incorporating it in their physical activity period and during morning assembly. On the last day of the training feedback of students, teachers and principals is collected in the pre designed format. Personal interviews of Physical Educators as well as of the students who have taken in the training are also recorded. Students were skilled in the art of self-protection by converting items such as bags, books, water bottle, and pencil Pen, newspaper into a weapon of protection.
